Halloween in the primary classroom is the perfect place to enjoy some stories together. Why? Halloween is so full of engaging topics, from dress up ideas, to spooky ghosts and monsters! My students are always so easily excited to share ideas and stories about anything Halloween! Read aloud stories are often my vehicle to start discussions and inspire writing or drawing. Here are a few of my favorites to read with my class.
HALLOWEEN READ ALOUD STORY #1
"Ghosts in the House!" by Kazuno Kohara: When a resourceful little girl moves into a house haunted by ghosts, she decides to put them to good use. With charming illustrations and a delightful twist, this imaginative story celebrates creativity and the power of a can-do attitude.
HALLOWEEN READ ALOUD STORY #2
"Ten Timid Ghosts" : In this familiar format, students will learn to count backwards from ten to one as each ghost flies away to the woods after seeing a skeleton, a bat, a hoot owl, or an enormous rat. The ending is fun and teaches all about teamwork as well!
HALLOWEEN READ ALOUD STORY #3
"The Scariest Story You've Ever Heard" : This is one of the most unique stories I've ever shared with my students! The story begins in a unique way - with NO pictures! It's just black, but with words... And yet even with no pictures, my students were completely captivated the entire time as the words describe how two brothers uncover the source of the mysterious sounds. Definitely worth taking a look at this one!
