Favorite Stories and Activities for Back To School

Writer: Peaceful PrimaryPeaceful Primary

Today I'm sharing more of my favorite read aloud stories and activities for back to school time. These choices are the ones that made my students laugh, or helped them feel more comfortable with their new teacher and classmates. They all have lovely illustrations and my students are completely engaged while reading together. I hope they will give you some ideas to share with your students!

BACK TO SCHOOL STORY #1

"Wemberly Worried" by Kevin Henkes: Wemberly the mouse is a worrier, especially when it comes to starting school. Follow along as she navigates her anxieties and discovers that sometimes things aren't as scary as they seem. A comforting story for any child feeling nervous about the school year ahead.

BACK TO SCHOOL STORY #2

"The Name Jar" by Yangsook Choi: When Unhei moves to a new school from Korea, she's not sure if she wants to keep her name or choose a new one. This touching story celebrates the importance of identity and acceptance, making it a perfect read for discussions about diversity and inclusion.

BACK TO SCHOOL STORY #3

"If You Take a Mouse to School" by Laura Numeroff: If you take a mouse to school, he's going to ask for all sorts of things! Follow along on this playful adventure filled with unexpected twists and turns that will keep young readers engaged from beginning to end.

Have you tried any of these stories with your students? As a teacher for 25 years, I would highly recommend any of them!
