As primary teachers, we know all about read alouds! We use them in so many ways, so it's important to find really engaging read alouds that students love. Here are some of my own students' favorite stories for when we are learning about Winter.
WINTER READ ALOUD #1
"Bear Snores On" by Karma Wilson
I've recommended stories in this series before, but in this one, Bear and his forest friends have to find from the cold in Bear's cozy cave. Of course it's time for a nap!
WINTER READ ALOUD #2
"The Biggest Snowman Ever" by Steven Kroll
Two friends, Clayton and Desmond, work together to build the biggest snowman ever in this heartwarming tale of friendship. This is a good one to read if you plan to take your students out to build their own snowmen later in the day.
WINTER READ ALOUD #3
"The Snow Globe Family" by Jane O'Connor
Imagine being tiny enough to fit into a snow globe! Step into the miniature world of the Snow Globe Family as they experience a snowy adventure in their own home.
Have you read any of these read alouds with your students? We loved them all!
WINTER SENTENCE CODES
Looking for some winter themed sentence practice? This is a really fun activity where students have to crack the phonics code to reveal drawing directions. The easiest level is pictured on the cover, but there are more challenging codes included as well (see the preview pictures below for levels 1, 2 and 3.)
