Must Read Stories and Activities for Halloween in Primary Classrooms

Updated: 2 days ago

As the leaves rustle and the air turns crisp, we know that Halloween approaches! This means we've made it through the first few months of school, and it's time for some fun! Captivate your students' imaginations with stories of ghosts, ghouls, and carved pumpkins. To celebrate the spirit of the season, there's no better way than through the pages of picture books! Here are just a few of my personal must read stories!

HALLOWEEN MUST READ #1

"Room on the Broom" by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler: Join the friendly witch and her cat on a broomstick adventure filled with whimsical creatures and heartwarming friendship. This rhythmic tale, with its clever rhymes and vibrant illustrations, it is a favorite with my students.

HALLOWEEN MUST READ #2

"The Hallo-wiener" by Dav Pilkey: Oscar the dachshund faces a Halloween dilemma when he's teased for his hot dog costume. However, when trouble arises, Oscar proves that bravery comes in all shapes and sizes. Dav Pilkey's humor and endearing characters make this a Halloween favorite in my classroom.

HALLOWEEN MUST READ #3

"Pumpkin Soup" by Helen Cooper: This is an adorable story of Duck, Cat, and Squirrel as they prepare their annual pumpkin soup. When Duck decides to stir things up, friendships are tested, but ultimately strengthened. Even though it's about Halloween, it actually celebrates teamwork, friendship, and the joys of autumn.

Have you shared any of these Halloween read aloud books or stories with your students yet? They are a wonderful way to celebrate Halloween with your class!
